Shane Tonu Eggleton Originally from New Zealand-Aotearoa, San Francisco-based Shane Tonu Eggleton is a carver, sculptor and artist of Polynesian heritage who works with recycled timbers to create artworks for public spaces and private commissions around the world. He has been an artist-in-residence in a number of countries, and long-term artist-in-residence for the Cultural Conservancy at the Presidio Arts Centre, San Francisco. His work has featured at myriad festivals, happenings, exhibitions and other arts events, and is in collections ranging from that of the drummer of the Grateful Dead to the Californian Academy of Sciences, to the wards of childrens’ hospitals. He has made sculptures for the Burning Man Festival, the Womad Festival, Prague University in the Czech Republic, New York’s Bronx Zoo, the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View California, and the United States National Park Service amongst other organisations. He is well-known as an eco-artist in the Bay Area, and more recently has been teaching carving at the Windward College campus of the University of Hawaii and working with carvers throughout the South Pacific.
