THE COURAGE OF RABBITS

Heroes dance naked under the stars,
Ghosting out of subtle subterranean architectures,
Agile as laughter,
Rippling silver under the rising moon.

They are blood calling to blood,
Slaughter's nimble children,
Meat and bones thriving
Joyfully under fire.

HOOFBEATS OF THE APOCALYPSE

Daffodils peek from my faux winter lawn
Unsure, edgewise,
Crouched under the fence.
Two twitchy, caffeinated blooms.

Rams tup ewes in the paddock across the drive,
Nature's civil servants nervously shuffling genes
While the new company hatchet man turns up the heat.
The wind blusters about, bemused and naked under his coat.

Unruly clouds lurk down to hide the hills,
Light shrinks from looming bouncer's grins,
Their roiling imminence
Edged with threatened knives.

Listen .

CLARITY

It was frosty this morning,
There's still a fine blue crunch to the day.
A hawk haunts the ridgeline
Flushing bursts of feathers
From fence and paddock.
A mongrel gang of two
Piss patrols my yard.
Cats watch.
Coffee steams in a sky blue cup.

The world can wait.

SCHOOL DAZE

A vague, bold
Enthusiasm litters my life with
Fragments of success.
The back of my mind booms constantly:
A parched ocean of voices scribbling in the margin;
"Could do better..."
"Hasn't tried..."
"Lazy..."

They don't see me fighting,
(Apathetic resistance:
Gandhi can't be fucked)
Shrugging my way through,
Casting fetal pearls
'Neath the feet of angry swine.

DARK ANGEL

You cannot see
My dark companion,
But I feel his
Tidal presence
In the constant
Lifting up and heaving of my heart.
An intimately mutual
Dance of gravity.

Fascinated,
I still orbit his annihilating kiss.
