The Zealot
He hears the voices and rejoices.
He hears the questions and knows the answers.
He claims this is how society advances.
He lifts his profile for the admiring glances.
He buffs his fingernails and points to his impeccable sources,
saying, For the greater good, the planet must be saved
from itself, and only we know how.
He claims, You desecrate the sacrosanct
with what you don't understand;
until finally the coin drops,
and kicks off the jukebox,
so it never stops,
but it ends when we go around the bend
into the future, still singing for our supper.
Yes, the proprietor of propriety
is raising his grub-stake as a greater share of the whole.
They are rewiring the writing of the house,
so the whole facade comes undone,
with revolution's real estate promising
to scrawl more zeroes over that suburban sprawl,
and raise value by selling it off to the highest bidder.
And all shall be nameless,
so praise the zealot, praise his work.
Juggernaut of the Elephant Party.
Apocalypse of the Beastly Greedy.
He says, It's always been a matter of –
you can and you can't,
you shall and you shan't,
you will and you won't,
you'll be damned if you do,
and damned if you don't.
Thank you for your attention to this message,
it's a salad of verbiage I made myself,
as I assert this and I assert that.
I may flip, I may slip,
I may ban and forbid,
but I know what's what,
and that's that.
