Keepsakes  (Old Times)

 Touched by something soft

Intricate keepsakes of a gathered age.

This faded longing, too rare to wear.

as unhurried as a swirl of Autumn wind

tucked away in small corners of heart

attics. Hear the ley lines of rhythm,

cross lines of forgotten lyrics.

Old riffs musically moving, some

languid song low humming,

pools of music water

this ebb of delicate currents

these desultory tides

caught in the drift of turning hours,

in slips of history embracing indolent time.

Betrayed in mirrors’ glances,

gazing at setting suns slow colours,

Warmed through by Jazz bars

and drifting old repertoires

Familiar passages crossing

into yesterday's sunset.

A beguiling sweet touch of beginning.
