I live beside the sea and write poetry. Graduated from Auckland University with Honours in Modern Poetry. I like to represent the simplicity of my relationship with the land that I have grown up in and live in.

Swimming at Point Chev.

I found myself approaching at high tide
the concrete & stone steps
leading downwards to the water.

There was no beach today,
Not spit, nor trace of shoal or shell.
Sediment sneakily evaporates, expires,
and ebbs
from this bay,
clogging the water ways with traffic.

I didn't feel like swimming and yet you
  juggled me into it.
The water was clear,
on the top step and so I could see clearly
the silken mudflats waiting below.

It wasn't a day for swimming.
